Community Puzzles

Puzzles built by players. A new one whenever you want one.

What community puzzles are

The daily Minecraft Connections board is one puzzle a day, the same sixteen blocks for everyone. Community puzzles are the other half: grids built by players, playable whenever you want another one. They are judged on the server exactly like the daily board, so the rules, the six lives and the colour grid you share afterwards all work the same way. They do not award XP, and they do not affect the leaderboards.

Pick four categories, pull four blocks into each, publish.

How the difficulty label is worked out

Every card shows a difficulty word rather than a raw clear rate, because a clear rate is not a straight line: 95% means the puzzle is too easy and 5% usually means it is broken, so the good range is a band in the middle. Above 80% cleared reads Easy, 50–80% Medium, 25–50% Hard and under 25% Brutal. Puzzles with fewer than five plays show no label at all — the sample is too small to mean anything.

How the three tabs rank puzzles

Hot multiplies how well a puzzle is liked by how much it is played, then lets that decay with age, so the front page turns over instead of freezing on one hit. Every brand-new puzzle also gets a small starting budget, otherwise a puzzle nobody has touched would sit at exactly zero forever. Top rated uses a confidence lower bound and requires at least twenty plays, so one puzzle with three votes cannot outrank one with five hundred. New is simply newest first, and it is the reason a fresh puzzle always gets seen.

The five feedback tags

After you finish or give up you can add tags to your rating. They are optional and they go to the author. "More than one answer" is the one that matters most to us: it is the only signal we have for hand-typed group labels, which no automatic check can verify.

Reporting and moderation

Every puzzle has a report link. Enough reports hide a puzzle automatically, before anyone has to read them — waiting for a human is exactly how offensive content stays up overnight. Hidden puzzles stay visible to their own author, clearly marked, so nothing silently disappears. A wrongly hidden puzzle can be restored.

FAQ

Do community puzzles give XP or count for the leaderboard?

No, neither. If they did, anyone could publish sixteen obvious blocks, solve them on a second account and farm the level ladder. That damage is not reversible once it is in the ledger, so the rule is set from day one.

Can I edit a puzzle after publishing it?

No. Everyone who played it has their result stored as group positions, so moving a group would scramble their saved score grid into something that never happened. You can take a puzzle down at any time and publish a corrected one.

Why is there no hint button on community puzzles?

The daily hint reveals two blocks from the easiest unsolved group. On a community puzzle the difficulty order is whatever the author said it was, so "easiest" is not a fact we can stand behind. Instead there is a give-up button that reveals everything.

I gave up. Can I still rate the puzzle?

Yes, and that is deliberate. If only people who solved a puzzle could rate it, every rating would drift upwards — the players with the strongest opinion about a bad puzzle are exactly the ones who got stuck.

Are community puzzles moderated before they appear?

Titles and labels pass a word filter, and every puzzle must survive an automatic check for a second valid answer before it can be published. Beyond that they go live immediately and are moderated by reports.
